Alcohol Increase Breast Cancer Risk

In 2002, nearly 6.000 women developed breast cancer. International researchers reported 3.6 percent of all cancer cases in the world related to alcohol drinking habits, and this becomes a cause of cancer deaths around 3.5 percent. The study was presented at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
The death rate due to a very large alcohol habit is 232.900 and is 3.5 percent of deaths from all types of cancer. More than 60 percent of cancers associated with alcohol consumption habits in men occur in the upper abdominal cavity, and the estimated 60% of women with breast cancer

Alcohol can change the way the body metabolizes estrogen. Many cases show that the causes of breast cancer is triggered by the hormone estrogen. And the regular use of alcohol causes increased blood estrogen levels and is expected to increase the risk of breast cancer.

When compared with teetotalers:

* Women who drank the equivalent of half a glass of wine a day is 6% more likely to develop breast cancer.
* Women who drink a glass or two days to face 21% increased risk of breast cancer.
* Those who drank more than two drinks a day were 37% more likely to develop breast cancer.

Greater risk in menopausal women are:

Menopausal women who drank half a glass of wine a day can increase the likelihood of breast cancer by 18%.
.
Actions you should do:

Make a healthy lifestyle, with a good diet, exercise, and avoiding smoking and drinking alcohol.

Vitamin D Breast Cancer Risk Press

A recent research indicates that increased consumption of vitamin D through dietary intake and exposure to sunlight associated with reduced risk of breast cancer.

As reported American Journal of Epidemiology, Monday (20/10), provision of vitamin D can suppress the presence of cancer hormone receptor, namely estrogen receptor (ER) and progesterone receptor (PR).

Hormone receptors may be analogous to the ear in breast cells that will listen to signals from hormones. When the signal ordering grows, cancer cells will develop breast cells that contain receptors.

Cancer will be called ER-positive (ER +) if the reason for the rise is a result of the receptor for the hormone estrogen. Meanwhile, if the reason for the rise is the presence of receptors for the hormone progresteron, called PR-positive (PR +).

Research linking vitamin D intake in the presence of hormone receptors was carried by Blackmore KM and colleagues from Mount Sinai Hospital in Ontario, Canada.

Research done by comparing 758 breast cancer patients and 1135 control participants who do not have the disease. The researchers found that participants who intake of vitamin D experienced a high 26 percent decreased risk of breast cancer, ER and PR, and 21 percent decreased risk of ER or PR tumors.

The study also indicates that vitamin D associated with reduced breast cancer risk regardless of whether the status of tumor ER or PR.

Vitamin D is found in foods such as fish oils, fortified foods, such as juice, cereal, and milk, and obtained by other means, such as exposure to sunlight.

Breast Cancer Patients Need Vitamin D

The majority of breast cancer patients have vitamin D levels are low. This can cause bones to become brittle and fracture risk. In addition, vitamin D deficiency also accelerate the deterioration of cancer.

"Vitamin D is essential for maintaining healthy bones and general bone density of women with lower breast cancer as a side effect of hormone therapy and chemotherapy," said luke Peppone, assistant professor of radiation oncology at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

Peppone and his team studied 166 women undergoing breast cancer treatment therapies. The researchers found that nearly 70 percent of patients had vitamin D levels are low in the blood. Levels of vitamin D research respondents an average of 27 nanograms per milliliter of blood. Based on the U.S. Institute of Medicine, a sufficient level is 32 nanograms per milliliter.

Therefore, the researchers suggested that the patients taking vitamin D supplements to increase the high-dose vitamin D. In addition to bone health, vitamin D also plays a vital role in cell growth and keep the immune system remains strong.

A study by experts from Canada also shows that breast cancer patients have vitamin D levels are not enough experienced the spread of tumors when compared with patients who have vitamin D deficiency

Apart from the supplements, vitamin D can be obtained from foods that contain calcium and exposure to sunlight.
